‘Ahh, but I was so much older then I’m younger than that now’…..The Byrds
In the middle of spring cleaning in the studio….Found this image of Roger McGuinn of the Byrds yesterday in an old shoebox – have no idea where the original is as I only found the print – hoping it shows up during the cleaning. Amazing that is existed for over 40 years….
I am not clear on why this image was made but my memory says 1972 in New York at my studio on 22nd street – probably for a rock magazine of the time. My favorite Byrd’s record was Sweetheart of the Rodeo with Gram Parsons (Flying Burrito Brothers) and some guitar playing by Clarence White (bluegrass guitarist and another favorite). The record was released in 1968 and most likely was the catalyst for ‘country-rock’.
Last year I was playing around with the lyrics above and made the image below from another photo from that same session……
Almost missed this one. It was one of those typical Ireland cloudy, wet days on the Dingle Peninsula. It was a very small road and I noticed this building as we navigated through a sharp bend in the road – hardly enough room for one car, let alone two. Drove a bit, found a turn around and luckily there was just enough parking in front of the structure.

I enjoy finding these hidden treasures – they have so many stories to tell….
This waterfall sits on a farm just off the main road in Iceland. Great thing is the farmer is pretty OK with photographers running around his land. On a recent visit I was out in the field shooting while he was riding his tractor in the same field. He was going back and forth edging closer and closer to where I had set up my tripod. As got closer he veered off and went around me – just a quick nod of his head and he was gone. Classy guy. I enjoy shooting here as I always find faces looking back at me from the rocks.

Louis Mendes has been shooting on the streets of New York for as long as I can remember. He is everywhere, outside B and H, at the Mermaid Parade, 42nd Street Times Square – this is where I ran into him two weeks ago – outside Starbucks on 42nd and 6th. He takes Polaroids with his Graflex and sells them, mostly to tourists….$20 a shot…..I was on my way to a class and decided to stop for coffee at Starbucks. Louis was just hanging outside with his camera – we got into a conversation and decided to meet the following week so I could get the portrait posted today. The guy is an inspiration for doing what you love to do everyday…………..Here are a few links with regard to Louis…
