Portraits

I am not someone who looks to make portraits but at times it is simply difficult to resist. When confronted with a face/faces that tell stories I try and step up and make the image. Here are two from the past few years.

The couple is from a trip to Ireland. We were navigating this small back road looking for landscapes and they suddenly appeared. The road was barely wide enough for the car and they were out walking the dog. The coupleĀ  stopped to tell us the road was a dead end and my reply was ‘can I take your picture’. Obviously they agreed.

The one below was made on Vashon Island just outside Seattle. A group of us were there for a 60th birthday celebration and ended up at the local flea market. Needless to say when I saw this woman I immediately asked for a portrait. Her expressive face has many many stories to tell.

Stovepipe Dunes, Death Valley

This image re-processed from a trip to Death Valley several years ago – really enjoy the hard contrast of a black and white image. This one simply feels right…

Northern Ireland

One of my favorite places to make images. Given the time I cold drive around Ireland for months on end. The landscape just seems to fit my vision – isolated but warm and friendly, great people who are open and ready to have a conversation. And the color also fits my palette.

Today’s image is from several years back. For the past few months on the road I have been concentrating on learning new processing skills so I go back and re-process some of my favorite images. This, given the time, is something all photographers make a habit of. Gives one the satisfaction of where you weer and where you are.

I am Back

Been quite awhile since my last post and it is time to get back. I have been Tour Managing Katy perry and will continue to do so until late this year and hopefully into next year. I am on a break until tomorrow so it is the perfect time to get ‘back into it’.

While in Montreal earlier this month I was given the opportunity to photograph the Queen with Adam Lambert show at the Bell Centre. And it was not ids-appointing at all. A genuine throwback to the glory days of rock and roll…..they sounded amazing. And Adam held his own filling the very large shoes of Freddie Mercury while adding his Adam persona into the mix.

Here are a few images from that night.
